The primary challenge for the "ALT" art hub within bomontiada was to design an inviting lounge and interaction area without purchasing any new products, relying solely on the institution's existing inventory. Within the complex and multi-layered structure of the historic factory, we needed to create a functional arrangement that respected this heritage while meeting the needs of a modern artist hub.
Our design process began by treating the company’s storage—filled with items from past projects—as a "material library." Adopting a proactive approach, we curated all objects; repaired those in need within the workshop, and upgraded others with new additions to grant them fresh functions. The production process was built on maximizing the potential of what already existed rather than manufacturing from scratch. My key insight was that design is not just about creating new forms, but the ability to recirculate idle resources through strategic engineering and aesthetic interventions.
ALT bomontiada stands as a testament to how aesthetic and sustainable upcycling can be on a spatial scale. Without utilizing any external resources, we demonstrated a proactive production model based solely on repair, modification, and arrangement. The lounge areas we designed became honest, living interaction points for artists and visitors, seamlessly integrating with the spirit of the historic factory.
