The primary challenge for Tom Basden’s absurd text was to create a stage layout using "silent" objects to form a simple yet powerful narrative. Guided by Mert Fırat’s clear vision, we designed a space that didn't restrict performance but instead reflected the play’s uncanny and critical world through its most stripped-back form. The key was to establish a stage discipline where every object existed only as much as needed, staying in perfect sync with the rhythm of the play.
We managed the design and implementation process as a collective team. Beyond defining the main outlines of the stage, we personally undertook the technical modeling and production of specific props, such as the custom-made hat holders. Additionally, the background video, which enhanced the stage's narrative and depth, was produced by our team. This holistic approach ensured that everything—from the digital media to the physical objects—shared a unified, minimalist design language.
The production of "Timsah" showcased a stage design that became an integral part of the performance. The units we designed, combined with the video elements, drew the audience into the play's absurd world while ensuring a technically flawless operation. For me, this project was an experience in merging different layers of design—video, furniture, and space—within the dynamic discipline of theatre.
